About the event

Community Catalysts

Sunday, April 26th from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM

Hosts: Crystal Waddell & Jacob Dickie (Lakeshore Horizons: Partnership of Municipality of Lakeshore and Centre for Cities)

Join Crystal Waddell (Centre for Cities) and Jacob Dickie (Municipality of Lakeshore) for a guided walk exploring the importance of catalytic development within the community. The walk will take guests along Main Street in Comber, where we’ll discuss the role of urban infill, mixed-use zoning, and how thoughtful main street design helps create vibrant places. We’ll also explore the importance of placemaking and main street activation—how programming, local businesses, and inviting public spaces encourage people to gather, connect, and support a thriving local economy.

Along the way, we will reflect on the historical connections between nature, farming, and industry in Comber, and how these elements have shaped the community into what it is today. By understanding these relationships, we can better imagine what types of future development can strengthen local identity while creating places that people need, value, and feel connected to.

The walk will start and finish at Linda McKinlay Park on Main Street in Comber, where we hope you will stick around for a short time to have some refreshments, from local businesses, and share in conversation.
