Mennonites have made their home in Essex County for over 100 years. Their journey to Canada was spurred by the trauma of life under Stalin in what is today Ukraine and later wars. In this walk, participants will learn about the history of the Mennonite religion, their successful lives in Ukraine following Catherine the Great's invitation to move there, their difficult lives under Stalin and their dramatic journey to Canada and freedom.
The Jane's Walk will include a tour of the museum and archives of Leamington's Mennonite Heritage Centre and the adjacent garden memorial.
