Downtown Windsor has been the focal point of urban life within Windsor-Essex for more than 100 years. Downtown continues to evolve through design work and development projects that can take several years to come to fruition, with renewed momentum being driven by Strengthen the Core, the City’s downtown revitalization plan that is helping to accelerate investment, confidence, and activity in the area. The western part of Downtown is expected to undergo significant transformation within the next decade.
Join a host of Urban Planners and Economic Developers for a brief introduction of projects that are in the works for the area north of University Avenue, between Bruce Avenue and Crawford Avenue. This introduction will provide context for understanding how planning decisions are shaping the future of the city's core. The introduction will be followed by a walking tour of the area stopping at development sites to discuss how these projects have the potential to transform Downtown and improve quality of urban life for the next 100 years.
Along the way, we will highlight the layered history of the area, including former buildings, streets and neighbourhood characteristics. By connecting past and present, the walk will encourage conversations about how Windsor has evolved, and how new development is re-sharping the public realm and urban fabric.
