Go West Young Man: Origin of Hiram Walker and Walkerville
Many people are familiar with the name Hiram Walker and know of Walkerville. This tour aims to cover the humble beginnings of the businessman, as well as examining the origin of the former company town and providing a brief overview of the town's second phase of development.

Go West Young Man: Origin of Hiram Walker and Walkerville
Saturday, May 2 from 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM

This tour will cover Hiram Walker’s origin story and the creation of Walkerville, while also interpreting some buildings that existed during his lifetime, such as the Hiram Walker and Sons Main Office Building and the Crown Inn. Some sites that once housed important relics of the past, such as the Pere Marquette Station and the old Walkerville Ferry Dock, will also be included. This tour will also include some buildings built as part of Walkerville's second phase of development, such as the Walkerville Town Hall and Walker Power Building.
About the host:
Museum Windsor includes the Francois Baby House, the Chimczuk Museum, Streetcar No. 351 and the Duff Baby House. Museum Assistant Walter S. Petrichyn has led walking tours representing Museum Windsor as part of the Janes Walk festival for City Hall Square in 2019, Detroit From Afar (along the Windsor Waterfront) in 2022, Riverside in 2024, and Ottawa Street in 2025. Independently, he has led a talk about the former steel town of Ojibway in Black Oak Heritage Park as part of Janes Walk in 2023.
