Jane's Walk: Take a walk along the shores of the Detroit River, our great living river, and learn about its history, its present, and the keys to our reconciled future. All from the view of its Indigenous relations, as Lenape writer and scholar leads through decolonializing your view of our river.

Join D.A. Lockhart, Lenape scholar and writer, as he walks you through the Indigenous history of the Detroit River. Following the banks of the river, Lockhart will lead you through the physical history of the river and its thousands of years of Indigenous habitation along its shores. This walk takes place in the beautiful Coventry Gardens along the eastern arm of the Detroit River. The park offers views of important locations and aspect of the river’s history. Specific attention will be paid to the Lenape and Ojibwe views of the living world and the cultural significance of these lands to the Indigenous cultures that long called these lands home.
We will meet at line of sycamore trees on the gravel path alongside the park’s main parking lot. Ample parking is available on site and in the overflow parking a block away. Bus stops are located nearby. A level and easy walk, this is a leisure walk that will occur entirely with the city park.
Event location: The walk will start and end at row of Sycamore Trees at the edge of the Coventry Gardens Parking lot (4714 Riverside Dr E, Windsor, ON)
