About the event
Our Schools are Our Neighbourhoods
Sunday, May 3rd from 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM
Host: Host name(s): David Garlick
Contact host: garlickd@yahoo.com
David Garlick was a high school principal for seventeen of his thirty-three years as an educator in Windsor-Essex. Since he retired, he’s published two collections of short stories about his life in education, beginning with his time in elementary school which began more than sixty years ago, continuing through every period of his life. Although the world was a very different place in the mid 1960s, the stories Garlick will read are all relatable and timeless. Schools reflect and shape the communities they inhabit. In effect, they are communities within communities.
While some people are pessimistic about ‘kids today,’ Garlick only ever uses the term as a compliment. He hopes, no matter your age, if you attend this Jane’s Talk you’ll leave having laughed, seeing that schools today, and kids today, are the same place and people they’ve always been; reflections of who we were, are, and hope to be in the future.
